Frets on Fire batch script

Frets on Fire

I’m playing Frets on Fire lately, which is basically an open source, multiplatform (Linux, OSX, Windows) clone of Guitar Hero.

After getting bored with the original three tracks I downloaded some more, but some of them had song.ogg missing. That is the file that Frets on Fire plays in the background (i.e., when you’re not tapping the keys) and essentially can be a copy of guitar.ogg (which is the file that is played when you tap the keys). As I had 40+ tracks I needed to check for song.ogg and I suck at bash scripting I wrote a PHP script for the command line to check each of the folders and create the missing files.

On Windows there is a .bat batch script, but I’m using Linux. The Frets on Fire batch script for Ubuntu (or any type of Linux fwiw) can be downloaded from http://clau.sparetimegroup.net/share/fretsonfire/. Basic usage instructions can be found in the readme file and basically amount to this :) :

php -f song.php [directory]

Here’s the Youtube video that hooked me up with Frets on Fire:

The song is of course Deep Purple - Smoke on Water (trivia: the first music video MTV ever broadcasted)
